E agora, José?
A festa acabou, a luz apagou, o povo sumiu.
And what about now, José?
The party's over, the lights are out, the crowd's dispersed.
Carlos Drummond de Andrade, José (1942)
The night
What if a bar at the edge of a port town became a stage for memories, music, and goodbyes?
Port-Pourri is an immersive, site-specific semi-devised play with live music, inspired by the Brazilian roda de samba—a circle where musicians play while the audience surrounds (and sometimes joins) the sound. In our version, the circle is made of characters: dockworkers, strangers, soldiers, and ghosts.
The story unfolds over one evening, in one place, as a ship prepares to depart. Songs emerge like conversations. Drinks get passed between audience and cast. Some people are arriving. Some are trying to forget. And some have already left.
At its heart, Port-Pourri is about learning to be left behind—and the music we carry after people are gone.

Questions
What time should I arrive?
7 or a bit after. That's when the doors open and the bar opens with them — Christian starts pouring as you walk in, and the line between arriving and watching the show dissolves pretty quickly.
If you're coming on the waitlist, arrive by 6:45 PM. We'll take names until 7:00, then call the list at 7:15 as space opens up.
How long is the night?
Plan to be there until around 9:30. There's no intermission, so use the bathroom before you walk in.
Is it indoor or outdoor?
Outdoor. The courtyard is open to the sky, which is part of how the room feels — you can hear the night and feel the air. Stanford in late May drops into the 50s after dark, so dress for an evening outside, not a dark theater.
What about food and drinks?
A small bar serves drinks all evening. Alcohol optional (for 21+ with ID checked at the door). There's also light food.
Is it appropriate for kids?
16 and up. There's strong language, and the show sits with themes of war and loss pretty seriously. If you're drinking, be 21+ and bring ID.
